Student Support and Outreach Coordinator

Dina Canup is the upper division academic advisor and primary point of contact for undergraduate film studies and theatre majors: prospective students, enrolled students, and alumni. She coordinates department outreach, the Theatre Ambassador program, recruitment, and tours. She serves as a hub of resources and support for undergraduate and graduate students in the department, referring them to resources on campus as needed. She is also the department historian.

Her past theatre involvement has included acting, directing, and serving on the board at Town and Gown Players. She has directed staged and workshop readings, including Ten Nights in a Barroom with the Thalian-Blackfriars for UGA Theatre's 80th anniversary in 2013 and Friendly’s Fire at Classic City Fringe Festival for Athens Playwrights Workshop in 2016. In 2019, she volunteered with Extra Special People's 360 program and wrote/co-directed Cinderella. From 2014-2020, she was the Theater Notes columnist for Flagpole magazine.

 

Education:

She has a Bachelor of Arts in English with a double minor in Theatre from Auburn University and a Master of Arts in Religion from the University of Georgia. During her time on staff at the Department of Theatre and Film Studies since 2007, she has earned a certificate in academic advisement, a certificate in diversity and inclusion, Advanced Academic Advising Certificate, and is a UGA LGBT Resource Center Safe Space.
