Thalian Blackfriars

This student organization is descended from the extracurricular clubs from which the Department of Drama developed. The purpose of the organization is to provide primarily undergraduate students with experience in all areas of theatrical productions above and beyond those activities available through course work or departmentally sponsored productions. Active membership is open to all students in the Department of Drama. In order to be recognized as an active member, students must register with Thalian Blackfriars and attend a minimum of three meetings per quarter. There are no membership fees. Thalian Blackfriars sponsors a number of productions throughout the academic year, including readers' theatre, one-acts, staged readings of new plays, radio shows improv, comedy sketches and at least one full-length play. The organization is entirely student governed and run, although a faculty member of the Department may be granted honorary membership.

Productions by the Thalian Blackfriars include:

Blue Window

En media res: Shakespeare Stumbled (a collection of scenes and monologues by "the bard")

Chamber Music (a one-act about a women's insanity ward and their declaration of war against the men's ward)

Reckless (a play about the identity people create for themselves or have created for them by their environment)
