Design & Technology Undergraduate Study
The Department of Drama and Theatre offers the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Drama.
The law school recognizes a B.A. in drama as an appropriate degree for pre-law
majors.
Admission:
In order to be admitted to the B.A. Degree, the student must
meet the entrance requirements of the University and the requirements for students
entering a senior major field in the College of Arts and Sciences. For a review
of these requirements the student should consult the University
Bulletin or discuss the matter with his or her academic advisor.
Degree Requirements:
The department of drama and theatre offers the bachelor of
arts (B.A. Degree) in drama. The B.A. degree is designed to offer a liberal
arts education with an emphasis in drama. After satisfying a basic core of drama
courses, the student may concentrate in acting, media, film studies, writing,
or design.
All undergraduate drama majors at the University of Georgia must complete the following core of drama
courses: DRAM 2040, 2050, 3200, 3210, 3290, 3300, 3500, 5053, and seven
three-hour courses in drama numbered 3000 or above. DRAM 2040, 2050,
3300, and 3500 should be completed by the sophomore year in order to
avoid difficulties in scheduling advanced drama courses. Theatre history
courses are not to be taken before the junior year.

A minimum of 30 hours
in DRAMA must be earned at the University of Georgia. |
In addition to the core courses, the student majoring in drama must complete 18 hours in drama courses
numbered above 3000. Students may only apply a maximum of 39 hours in
drama towards the B.A. degree. Of these, only 3 hours may be courses
numbered below 3000. DRAM 2000 may not be used as part of Drama major
hours. DRAM 2000, 2120 and 2130 may be applied to the Regents core curriculum
and as such do not count towards the 39 hours total for the drama major.
Students seeking the B.A.
in drama are encouraged to take a broad base of varied drama courses.
In addition to performance and design work, students are encouraged
to take courses in history, theory, directing and scriptwriting. Students
are encouraged especially to take DRAM 2120 or 2130 to apply to the
Fine Arts requirement of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Undergraduate Advising:
All drama majors entering the University should contact the departmental program coordinator as
soon as possible for an appointment with the department head. For the
first 60 hours drama majors will be advised by the professional advisors
in the College of Arts and Sciences. Upon completion of 60 hours the
drama major will be assigned a drama faculty advisor.
Undergraduate Honors Programs:
For exceptional students the University maintains a special Honors Program. The Department of
Drama participates in the Honors Program and students of the departmental
undergraduate program may be Honors students. Please visit the Honors Program Website for information on admission.
