Richard Allen: The Sound of The Birds

Richard Allen is professor and chair of cinema studies at New York University. Among many other subjects, his research has focused upon film poetics and aesthetics, in particular, the films of Alfred Hitchcock. This research includes three Hitchcock anthologies and editorship of The Hitchcock Annual, the journal of Hitchcock studies, as well as his book Hitchcock’s Romantic Irony (Columbia University Press, 2007).

Professor Allen’s talk will explore the innovative role of electronic sound in Hitchcock’s 1963 film The Birds.

Professor Allen will also introduce a special screening of Hitchcock’s Frenzy at 7:30 the evening of April 22 at Ciné, 234 W. Hancock Ave. in downtown Athens.
