Department Colloquium: Harmut Koeneitz

Dr. Harmut Koeneitz, Assistant Professor of Mass Media Arts in the Grady College, will give a presentation on "Interactive Digital Narrative. New Expressive Narrative Forms and How to Understand Them."

Dr. Koeneitz has studied English Literature and Language, German Literature and Language, Drama, Communications, Information Science, Media Studies, History, and Political Sciences at University of Tübingen, Goldsmiths’ College, London, and Freie Universität Berlin. His PhD in Digital Media on Interactive Digital Narrative is from Georgia Tech.

His research interests are at the intersection of art, culture, history, and technology. He is especially interested in new forms of narrative expression in computer games and other digital media forms. Together with an international team of researchers, he founded the Games & Narrative group, which is working on furthering the theory and practice of digital interactive narrative through publications, talks, and workshops. He is the creator of the ASAPS authoring tool for Interactive Digital Narrative. His art work has been shown in Atlanta, Paris, and Istanbul. Most recently, he was the chair of the International Conference for Interactive Digital Storytelling in Istanbul: . A Book co-edited with the Games & Narrative group Interactive Digital Narrative – History, Theory, and Practice is under contract with Routledge and will appear in the series Studies in European Communication Research and Education in 2014.
