Dramatic Media
The Department of Theatre and Film Studies' MFA with an emphasis on
dramatic media production integrates the disciplines of theatre,
digital media and computing. The degree focuses on developing skills
in either one or both of the two following areas: (1) the creation-
from conception though modeling and animating, of narrative 3D
animations, and (2) the integration of digital media into live and/or
interactive settings, such as theatre or video games. The Dramatic
Media Production area produces students who can create and realize
animated and/or interactive media narrative utilizing the unique
foundation of the theatrical arts: the study of writing, directing,
design, performance and movement within 3D space. The program draws
from students with a wide variety of backgrounds, including theatre,
art, media and communications. Graduates find work in a variety of
computer graphics related fields, including 3D animation for film,
television and games, and media-enhanced theatre and performance. The
degree is a three year program requiring 60 credit hours of course
work beyond the BA degree.
