3D Modeling and Animation

Being surrounded by artists and animators rubbed off on me. I spent some time learning modeling and animation techniques in Maya so that I would be more capable of supporting the students. It's ridiculously fun, but also painstakingly tedious.

My first project was a snowman. Which in itself is not a very difficult task, but I challenged myself to do a little bit more than three stacked spheres. The hat and arms are have a bit of detail and the hilly environment with backdrop adds to the ambience. I even experimented with cloth simulation for the scarf so that it would flap realistically in the breeze.

Greek Temple

The greek temple was more of a focused exercise on modeling detail. The terracotta roof is filled with slight changes in color. The details in columns and the ornamets add to the realism.

Shark
Duh, duh ... duh, duh ...

The shark was the most challenging of my projects. I created a low-poly proxy of the shark and smoothed all the surfaces to create a high-res version. The shark was hand painted, textured, and weight-mapped. It features a complete rig for rotating the tail, head, fins, as well as opening and closing the mouth.
