Class Credit for Shows - Production Practicum

How does class credit work for being involved in UGA Theatre shows? What if drop/add has ended?

  • THEA 5080, production practicum, is used for class credit for UGA Theatre production -- with the exception of applied drama (THEA 2040/2050) for crew work on shows. To get the credit for the upcoming semester before the end of drop add, click here for the course override request form. If you are seeking credit for a production from the previous semester or after drop/add, contact Dr. Saltz (saltz@uga.edu and include your UGA ID#) for permission to add the credit (click here for information on late adding). When registering, be sure to select the correct number of hours currently, the number of hours will appear in blue, which means you can click to select 1, 2, or 3). If you take it for a 3 hour credit, it can be used as a theatre elective. You may get the credit during the semester you are in the show or the fall/spring immediately following.

  • If you are cast in a show, you can get credit (up to 3 hours) through THEA 5080, production practicum.

  • If you are wanting to do crew for applied drama (THEA 2040, 2050), contact Michael O’Connell (mpo@uga.edu) once he is ready to arrange crew assignments. In some cases, students can get applied drama credit for shop work (costume, scenic, publicity) but stage crew assignments are top priority. Click here for more information.

  • If you are interested in stage managing, contact Tina Hantula (hantula@uga.edu). Stage managers are eligible for THEA 5080 credit, but may elect to use applied drama course credit first if needed.

  • If you wish to assistant direct, contact the director of the show to see if it is possible. You could receive THEA 5080 credit.

  • If you are assistant designing, talk to your design professor. You may receive THEA 5080 credit.

  • IF DROP/ADD HAS ENDED before you are cast or get another assignment, you may late add the class (see above) or elect to get this credit the following semester after you do the work. We just can’t grant course credit a year or two later so it would need to be credit you get either during the semester in which you do the work, or else the semester immediately following (not counting summer).
