The Department of Theatre and Film is excited to welcome two new members to its faculty: Alex Mason, Assistant Professor of Lighting Design, and Jeff Sherwood, Assistant Professor of Sound Design and Sonic Arts.

Mason is a lighting designer whose work spans musical theatre, opera, drama, dance, and installation art. His bold use of line, color, and innovative technology has been showcased in productions such as The Rite of Spring, Into the Woods, and Pippin with companies including the Cincinnati, San Jose, and Omaha operas, and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.

Sherwood is an award-winning sound designer, composer, and audio engineer whose career includes Off-Broadway work with The Public Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, and Signature Theatre, as well as regional credits at Williamstown Theatre Festival, PlayMakers Repertory Company, and Theatre Aspen. His projects also extend to internationally premiered films, and he serves in leadership roles with USITT, OISTAT, and KCACTF.

Together, Mason and Sherwood bring a wealth of creative expertise, industry insights, and teaching experience that will expand opportunities for UGA students and strengthen the department’s reputation for excellence in theatrical design and production.
