Directors Note for Hayavadana

Director: Farley Richmond | Email: farleyrichmond@gmail.com

Congratulations to all those who auditioned for Hayavadana which some have called The Transposed Heads or The Jumbled Heads. This play is meant to celebrate those of Indian descent and those who are learning to better understand this ancient culture noted for the largest number of citizens in the world! As you may have experienced during callbacks, this is a comedy yet punctuated with serious moments. As I watched the auditions, I felt proud. First, to know that you are the next generation of performers moving closer to careers in theatre, film and any other field of study you might find helpful to develop a career. No doubt my colleagues have been equally impressed with your potential and look forward to working with you in the next few months. I and my staff of talented designers, our dramaturg, and assistant director look forward to meeting and working with you and bringing Hayavadana to life.

Directors Note for First Semester

Directors: Wyn Thomas and Sydney Rainwater | Emails: wynthomas@uga.edu and sydney.rainwater@uga.edu

Thank you for auditioning for First Semester: A Musical. We are absolutely thrilled with the talent and enthusiasm that you all brought to auditions. This musical is still being crafted, and we can't wait to bring you into the process. To those cast, we are so excited to get started working with you! Be on the lookout for an email from Rhianna, our stage manager, coming soon. Just a reminder, we will NOT be rehearsing over Thanksgiving or winter break, but will hit the ground running in January.

If you were not cast and would still like to be involved, there are many ways to do so! Contact Rhianna Walton at rhianna.walton@uga.edu if you are interested in technical positions or in assisting musically.

Directors Note for Little Shop of Horrors

Director: Daniel Ellis | Email: ellisd@uga.edu

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to come out in such numbers last week and giving such amazing auditions for the Spring productions. You work made casting between all three shows difficult and exciting. It was a joy to see so many of you throughout the process celebrating each other’s accomplishments and successes. As always, there are many factors going into casting an entire semester of shows so please do not think you did poorly if your name is not here! The energy and sense of community created by each of you during callbacks was palatable and uplifting. Thank you all for helping to create a space where people felt safe enough to risk and make big beautiful choices.

There may be additional casting choices to be made in the upcoming weeks. As Little Shop begins its design process, we may be looking for people who would be interested to participate in the show in additional ways including being in a dance ensemble, puppeteering, crew, Assistant Directing, etc. If you are interested in being involved and were not cast in one of the shows next semester, please reach out to me if you would like to be involved.

Continue to bring your best self into the room each time you audition. Be proud of the work you do – and continue to love and support one another as each of you continue to be proud, bold and daring artists.

So proud of all of you!

Daniel Ellis, Academic Professional in Opera/Musical Theatre
